Alex Young’s “10 Quickies”

Get to know Alex Young, pop/r&b artist hailing from NYC. Sultry vocals and amazing stage presence is what this young star embodies.

Be sure to read our exclusive interview with Alex, and check out her interesting answers in the “10 Quickies” below.

1. What is your one-line positive thinking mantra?

Probably “This is easy.” Even when it’s not, saying that makes it feel a little more like it is…and if that doesn’t work I read somewhere that repeating the words, “cheese whiz” relaxes the mouth muscles. Take it for what it’s worth. I say it all the time even at the risk of sounding like a weirdo cheese addict!

2. Describe your personality?

I’d like to think of myself as a free spirit.  I’m very spontaneous, self-critical and really love to explore new and different ways of doing things. I have a very strong aversion to negative energy and anything that remains stagnant. That word is probably my mortal enemy.

3. What practices have you adopted that have led to a healthier lifestyle?

I recently drastically changed my diet. I no longer eat any kind of dairy or eggs. It boosted my energy level, which is a definite plus with my schedule. I also love doing yoga, which is great for muscle tone and remaining centered.

4. The world is going green, have you embraced the trend?

Remembering to leave the lights off when not needed, using a reusable grocery bag, and being more conscious of how much water I use.

5. Provide us with a few tips and tricks for holistic living?

I just try to always eat free-range or organic food. I don’t tend to use western medication unless it’s needed. Mostly, just putting good things in the body and routine exercise has been the most effective for me.

6. Describe your fashion style?

Well, my fashion sense is constantly changing. So, next week it might be something totally different. Lately, I’ve been really into the Victorian/Belle Époque look mixed with a little motorcycle chic. I think it creates an interesting juxtaposition of style.

7. How do you unwind after a long week?

Yoga is great for unwinding. Also, listening to Bossa Nova always has the ability to transport me to a gorgeous island on the beach somewhere.

8. What empowers you?

Watching inspiring characters like Mae West, a few characters from some Sergio Leone films and remembering the power of human resilience. Also, the energy I get from audiences during live performances.

9. What is your favorite cuisine?

That actually changes weekly. Sometimes I really love Thai. Sometimes French, I was really into Sushi for a while. I enjoy fushion. Cuban is always exciting and Moroccan when I’m feeling like something exotic.

10. How do you creatively express yourself?

I try to use every creative outlet available. Performing while singing and dancing on stage is the greatest form of expression for me. It’s the one I connect the most with. I love performing to live audiences.  I love creating jewelry and expressing myself through fashion. Also, having the courage to express your opinion…because living life to the fullest is the greatest expression of all.
