Meet Maki Horikita, a talented Japanese actress and model. Maki made her acting debut in 2003, and has since starred in a number of Japanese television dramas and movies, appeared on numerous magazine covers, shot several commercials, and endorsed a lot of products.
Maki was born Marina Hara on October 6, 1988 in Tokyo, Japan. A tomboy throughout her childhood, she enjoyed playing basketball and baseball with her friends. Horikita was vice-president of her high school’s student council, and vice-captain of the basketball club. However, her activities in school became less as she focused more on finishing up her education in order to fully concentrate on her blossoming entertainment career.
Maki became well known through advertisements for Fujifilm and Lotte. Her most notable television roles was her appearance in “Densha Otoku” and “Nobuta wo Produce“, which she won a ‘Best Supporting Actress‘ award for at the 47th Television Drama Academy Awards. She went on to win another ‘Best Supporting Actress’ award for her role in the hit drama “Kurosagi“. Maki was casted in the horror movie “One Missed Call: Final“, alongside her friend Kuroki Meisa, and South Korean actor Jang Geun Suk. Soon after, she landed the gender-bending role in the hit drama “Hana Kimi“, which nailed her a ‘Best Actress Award’ at the 54th Television Drama Academy Awards.
In 2007, Maki was awarded Vogue Nippon’s ‘Woman of The Year‘. Later that year she starred in the drama “Innocent Love” alongside popular Japanese actor Hiroki Narimiya. Maki played the role of ‘Naomi’ in the Hollywood-Japan collaboration film called “Dareka ga Watashi ni Kiss wo Shite“, based on Gabrielle Zevin’s novel “Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac”, and directed by Hans Canosa.
Other than starring in television dramas and movies, Maki has ventured into voice acting (anime seiyu), and have appeared in several music videos. She has starred in over 30 television dramas, 25 movies, did 19 endorsements, released 10 photobooks, and has won 7 awards. Since the start of 2010, Maki has starred in 3 television dramas, and is currently starring in “Jeanne d’Arc“, a stage play adaptation of the story.
This talented young lady with such good work ethic sure doesn’t seem tired, and at the young age of 22, Maki has already achieved so much and continues to work hard to prove there is much more to come!
