Meet Brutha, an American R&B quintet consisting of five brothers: Grady, Cheyenne, Jacob, Jared, and Anthony. The group became known nationally through their reality television show “Brothers to Brutha” on BET. The show displayed Brutha’s hard-work and determination to make it in the entertainment industry.
In 2007, the group’s uncle Donny Harrell, the CEO of Goodfellas Entertainment, and (the now late) Shakir Stewart, a Senior Vice-President of A&R at Island Def Jam, invited the brothers to Atlanta to audition for Jermaine Dupri. Dupri became impressed and later signed them to Island Def Jam Music Group.
On September 30, 2008, Brutha released their first single and music video “I Can’t Hear The Music“, which featured rapper Fabolous. The song was produced by the Award winning Blac Elvis (Ludacris, Ciara, Fergie, Mario, Nelly), and the music video was directed by Jessy Terrero. Their self titled debut album was released on December 21, 2008, and the group released their follow up single “She’s Gone” later on.
The group’s joy of finally making their debut in the industry was almost shattered with the death of mentor and family friend Shakir Stewart. However, the tragedy made Brutha realise how important it was for them to work even harder in keeping their dream alive, as a tribute to Stewart.
Brutha has released two singles since the start of 2010, “One Day on This Earth” written by R.Kelly, and “Can’t Get Enough“, which will both be included on their upcoming sophomore release “Vacancy“. While working on their second album, Brutha released an online mixtape titled “Destination: Short Stay“. The mixtape contained originals along with covers of the groups favorite songs.
