Spotlight – Bruno Mars

Meet Bruno Mars, an American Pop singer, songwriter and producer. Bruno is best known for the hit songs “Nothing On You“, “Billionaire“, “Just The Way You Are“, and “Grenade“.

Bruno Mars was born Pete Gene Hernandez in Honolulu, Hawaii. He’s of Puerto Rican and Filipino decent. Bruno grew up in a musical family and being influenced by a diverse mix of music from r&b, pop, hip hop, to reggae.

In 1990, Bruno was featured in MidWeek as “little Elvis“, and later appeared in the movie “Honeymoon in Vegas” in 1992. In 2003, after he graduated from President Theodore Roosevelt High School, Bruno moved to Los Angeles Β to pursue a musical career. He used his childhood nickname ‘Bruno Mars’ as his stage name. In 2006, after Aaron Bay-Schuck of Atlantic Records heard Bruno play on his guitar, he signed him to the label. Bruno along with Philip Lawrence became songwriters and producers for the label’s artists.

Bruno wrote songs for Alexandra Burke, Brandy, Sean Kingston, Travie McCoy, and Flo Rida. He appeared on Far East Movement’s “Animal” album, on a track called “3D“, but made his breakthrough as a featured artist on B.O.B’s “Nothing on You“, and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire“. Both singles were very successful internationally. In May 2010, Bruno released an EP titled “It’s Better If You Don’t Understand”. He collaborated with Cee Lo, and B.o.B on the EP.

Bruno’s debut album “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” was released on October 13, 2010. The album peaked at the number three position on Billboard 200 chart, and produced two successful singles since its release: “Just The Way You Are“, and “Grenade“. Both singles topped music charts worldwide.

Bruno Mars has received seven Grammy nominations for his solo work as well as for his writing and production , and also his collaboration work. He is a super talented artist that would never be swept under the rug, but rather receive undivided attention. Check out my favorite songs: “Billionaire“, “Just The Way You Are“, and “Grenade“.
