Meet Columbus Short, an American actor, dancer, choreographer, and singer. Columbus is best known for his roles in the films ‘Stomp the Yard‘, ‘This Christmas‘, and ‘Armored‘, and as the choreographer for Britney Spears’ Onyx Hotel Tour.
Columbus Short was born Kansas City, Missouri to a family who loved the creative arts. The family later relocated to Los Angeles while he was young, and soon after began working in a youth theater. He attended performing arts high school until joining the Broadway tour of Stomp, a non-traditional dance troupe.
Short first appeared in the hit movie ‘You got Served‘ in 2004 as a dancer, and later in 2006 he took on a supporting actor role in ‘Accepted‘, starring alongside Justin Long. In 2007, Columbus landed his first lead role in the hit drama and dance film ‘Stomp the Yard‘. The film also starred Chris Brown (in a short lived performance), Meagan Good, Brian White, Ne-Yo, and Darrin Henson. ‘Stomp the Yard’ topped the box office on its opening weekend, receiving positive reviews from critics, and grossing over $75 million worldwide. Short later co-starred in the movie ‘This Christmas‘ alongside Chris Brown, Loretta Devine, Idris Elba, Regina King, and Lauren London. ‘This Christmas’ opened at number one at the Box Office and grossed over $50 million.
Columbus made several appearances in television dramas and sitcoms since his debut: ‘ER‘, ‘Judging Amy‘, ‘That’s so Raven‘, and ‘Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip‘. He was nominated for a Teen Choice Award, and three MTV Movie Awards in 2007 for his performance in ‘Stomp the Yard‘. In 2009, Columbus received an Image Award for his role in ‘Cadillac Records‘. He went on to star in the film ‘Armored‘ in 2009, and ‘The Losers‘ in 2010 alongside Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Idris Elba, Chris Evans, and Zoe Saldana.
Short always loved entertaining people. He’s a very talented individual working hard at what he does best. He’s also skillful in playing the drums. In an interview, Columbus stated “I just can’t relax. I can’t not work, given where I want to be. I can say with full sincerity that I am happy. I’m happy because I’m doing what I love, and I’m not selling out.” Keep an eye on this man, because he won’t be leaving anytime soon, rather he’ll be making bigger waves in Hollywood.
He’s a good actor! I saw Armored on Starz one night not too long ago when I was having a bout of insomnia. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it or not given I’m not really into those types of movies, but it was surprisingly cool and the acting was good!
