  1. Although the press is what ultimately makes a film festival successful, I feel that so many of the key principles are being overshadowed. Film festivals are about showcasing up and coming independent film material but as each year goes by, it seems like the films are taking a back seat to the “celebrity” aspect. Film festivals such as Cannes have become the new “it” thing in Hollywood and now with the influx of A list celebrities, the focus begins to shift. We’re now interested more in who is going to be there and what they’re wearing, then what films are actually being screened. Film festivals were the product of an independent film communities outcry against the traditional Hollywood system but I feel like the lines between the two are beginning to become blurred.
