Detroit rappers and long time friends Royce Da 5'9" and Eminem reunite as the hip hop duo Bad Meets Evil. Both previously appeared together on Eminem's debut album The Slim Shady LP back in 1999, and have also contributed to other artists albums. The duo fell apart after an altercation in the early 2000s but have since resumed their activities and have been working on their EP "Hell: The Sequel", set to be released on June 14.
“Fast Lane“, the first single from the EP, is a true rap song with an hypnotic beat. The duo spits clean and clear lyrics in a fast paced flow while adding their own individual swag to each verse. In each line, the duo takes us back to something significant that has influenced their music and life; Eminem goes back to 8 mile when he says “Drive them trailer parks crazy/I am back, and I am razor-sharp, baby.” There’s no denying the talents already heavily displayed by Eminem in the industry, but Royce is a hungry rising rap star in his own way. It’s been a while since i’ve heard a rap song like this and i’m glad Detroit’s finest is giving us the real deal. Overall, I give the single a rating of 4.8/5
The music video, which has a wharehouse setting, features animated displays of the song lyrics and some fancy graphic effects. It also takes a little inspiration from 80’s rap style as well. Check it out below and make sure to purchase “Fast Lane” now on iTunes.
