The 2011 BET Awards was held on Sunday June 26th at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and the show was everything but organized. You’d think after being around for a few years and now classified as a prestigious award show that it’d have everything under control, however last night I felt as if I was watching the first show ever. Here’s what in my opinion would have made the show exceptional: the technicians blocking out “certain” words should take the time in learning the songs instead of blocking out the wrong parts or too much of the song in general, there were too many performances and some were a bit dry, the audience should not see the technicians walking across the stage, and lastly, don’t use gadgets unless you’re absolutely sure nothing will get messed up (would have avoided that awkward moment during the viewers choice award).
While there were some mishaps, the show did have some good points: stars were dressed to impressed, there were some hot performances (Mary J. Blige & Anita Baker, Chris Brown, Ace Hood ft. Lil’ Wayne a Rick Ross, Kelly Rowland) and I loved Kevin Hart’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood” segment along with his opening remarks about being the “NO” man. The BET awards still needs work and i’m sure after seeing what went down they’re going to do some serious evaluation as to how to improve this fabulous show.
