Who is Meklit Hadero? She’s a stunning beauty, a lover of the arts, a songwriter, and a soulful singer. This talented lady is widely influenced by jazz, hip hop, soul, r&b, folk music, to the traditional sounds from her East African home of Ethiopia. Her unique musical style has no limits. Meklit continues to evolve as an artist taking inspiration from any and everything.
Born in Ethiopia, Meklit grew up in Iowa, New York, and florida; quite the mover in deed. She studied political science at Yale, then after graduating moved to San Francisco. Hadero fell in love with the arts and entertainment scene in the city. She would later gain exposure for her debut song “On a Day Like This.” Her music is described as “New York jazz fused with West Coast folk and African flourishes”, an “artistic giant in the early stages.”
What I like about her singing is how raw and uncut it sounds. Her lyrics are pure and straight from the heart, not to mention she has some really intense live performances. It’s always a pleasure for me to learn about these kind of artists; not so much as mainstream but without any doubt they’re always naturally talented.
Take a listen to Meklit’s “Leaving Soon” below and you’ll definitely comprehend my interpretation of how good of an artist she really is.
