For Thought: Morality doesn’t exist in China?

Highlighted, a 2-year-old little girl about to be hit and run over by a white van in the background, in Guangdong, China.

WTH!! Can someone please explain to me how human beings can just walk by normally like everything’s fine when a child has been hit by not one, but two vehicles and is left bleeding in the middle of the street? Well, that’s certainly what took place on October 13 in Foshan City, Guandong, China. Apparently, a graphic surveillance video depicted a two year old being run over by a van, which immediately drove off, and ignored by passersby. Over the next several minutes, tons of civilians walk or drive past the child without helping her until she’s ran over by a second truck. A woman (garbage scavenger) later pulled the child to the side before her mother finally showed up (well where in the world was this lady all along? Jesus). Watch the clip below:

The girl is currently hospitalized but is lying in a coma, which is expected after she was basically treated like a rag doll by these bastard drivers. Sadly, she has also been declared ‘brain dead’ and could die at any time now. Fortunately, the drivers were caught and placed under arrest. But this didn’t suppress the boiling emotions of people around the globe who caught sight of this devastating event. It really made people think about the kind of society China has. I mean, how can people have no remorse in such a time of tragedy? On China’s twitter, one user called the incident “the shame of Chinese people.”  Another stated:

“Really, what is up with our society? I saw this and my heart went cold. Everyone needs to do some soul searching about ending this kind of indifference.”

A Chinese man riding by on his tricycle cart carrying pipes, avoiding the body of a 2-year-old little girl on the road.

According to Michael Martina of Reuters who reported the incident, many people in China are hesitant to help people who appear to be in distress for fear that they will be blamed. High-profile law suits have ended with good Samaritans ordered to pay hefty fines to individuals they sought to help. But come on now, does such a thing matter in a time like this. What ever happened to helping your fellow man (or child)? Isn’t it the humane thing to do? Am I to believe they refused to help the child because they were afraid of being fined? Money always peeks through the hole in everything doesn’t it?

This news really turned my stomach. I can’t believe people could witness such a thing and still went on their way. They can’t possibly sleep well at nights with this on their hearts. If they even have a heart. I pray for the poor child involved and I’m sure God is with her. And I also pray for the woman who helped her, along with the people who didn’t. This gave me a bad image of the people of that country and the way in which they reacted to such a crime.  I know this is only an area within the very large China and you can’t use one group of people to identify the behavior of all, but still…I wonder.

Anyways, this is just my opinion. What do you think?

  1. I read this last night and honestly could not sleep afterwards D: I understand why these people would be afraid and even intimidated by helping her, but come on. They just left a poor, innocent child in the street for dead. It’s really, really disturbing. Honestly, I couldn’t even watch the video, because the article made me want to cry enough as it is… wow, this is just honestly terrible. I hope that she manages to recover 😦

  2. I watched the video and I could not believe my eyes I mean the girl was just ran over like it was nothing. The driver even noticed that they had run over and just continued on! I’m amazed at the amount of people who went by her because they all knew well enough that they definately saw her, it’s heartbreaking!! If the girl had been helped sooner then maybe she would not have become like this and also where were her parents and why would their daughter be wandering such a busy road alone. I’m so thankful the garbage lady aided the girl. I pray for the child will recover soon and for the sufferrings the parents must have to face.
