Isn’t this borderline kiddie porn?

How do you feel about 10 year olds and much younger than that being exposed to high fashion and the world of pageantry? No matter how some of these mothers and others involved try to make it look all glittery and fun, I still see the negative side to it, and I truly believe these kids are made to live out the dreams of grown women who missed their opportunity to be in the beauty industry. Have you seen some of these television shows, depicting toddlers in mature and suggestive outfits, and they’re even wearing make-up. Already, they’re being exposed to harsh criticism for their appearance and abilities. If they make a mistake during a dance routine or forget what they’re supposed to say, discouraging remarks like “what’s wrong with you?” “You’re just not pretty enough” or “you’re not good enough” is being spat into their faces, often times by the person who’s supposed to be nurturing them.

I’m certain that some of the mothers involved in this lifestyle will come to its defense and even go as far as try to school me on the benefits of starting their kids out so early. Believe me I’ve heard a few already: it builds character and helps prepare them for bigger pageants when they’re older, and it also helps them become more graceful. Whatever the case, I disagree with it. I know I can only write from my perspective of things and I can tell you now that at 7 years old I was not worried about getting my make-up or clothes right, nope. I was preoccupied with playing hide n’ seek or dollhouse with playmates.

Isn’t it somewhat exploiting your child by making them participate in such contests, allowing them to be exposed to public scrutiny and disappointment at such tender ages. So, where am I going with this? I disagree with children parading around on stage wearing inappropriate clothing, making adult-like poses, and performing adult-like dances. That’s just my opinion though.

What do you think about it?

  1. I definitely think they could dress these girls differently so that it doesn’t seem like something so perverted bu not all beauty paegents with little girls in them are bad

  2. OMG! that pic is funny but also very serious. I think it’s definitely borderline child pornography and i don’t know why these mothers subject their babies to these things
