India: to go or not to go?

My opinion of India has been formulated based on what I’ve seen in the media. That the country is super clustered, the people are obsessed with curry, men are overtly domineering, families have a lot of incest, animals are worshiped and sometimes humans have intimate relationships with them. Of course, one can’t generalize an entire population simply based on the odd behavior of some. We … Continue reading India: to go or not to go?

Murder in the name of Art

Controversial artist Damien Hirst knows how to stir up an audience. This man takes art to the next level and often at the expense of other creatures. For example, his usage of a bisected cow and calf, submerging a shark in a tank of formaldehyde (a colorless pungent gas, CH2O, in solution made by oxidizing methanol), and has most recently filled two windowless rooms with real … Continue reading Murder in the name of Art

Glassheart

Release date: October 12, 2012

Label: Sony/Syco Music

Purchase: Amazon | iTunes

Almost seven years in the biz and three years since her last  album ‘echoed’ in our ears,  with the exception of Hurt pleasantly filling the cold space in between, Leona Lewis has returned with her third studio album, Glassheart

There’s no second guessing when it comes to the natural talent of this British songstress. She has hits to shut you up with. But with several delays, including coping with the restructuring of her record label, will third time really be a charm for the soulful lady? Let’s analyze: Continue reading “Music Review: Leona Lewis “Glassheart””

Ailee’s gonna “Show You”

[Music Review] Brandy’s Two Eleven

Brandy Two Eleven Deluxe TheLavaLizard

Release date: October 16, 2012

Label: RCA

[Sigh!] Where do I begin and end with this album review, hold on tight to your seats. This captain is pissed.

I’ve been looking forward to Brandy’s album return. There are not enough adjectives in the Oxford dictionary to describe the atrocity and all kinds of fail that is this album. Folks, I’m not soft with my reviews, sorry to grate your nerves. I believe in   writing a review free of bias, and unadulterated in opinion. When I asked Kai for hers she did not hesitate to state, “It is not worth bootlegging. It is the kind of album one doesn’t care if it leaks before release date, because it is just yeah…..”[loss of words]. She even called Jesus, then summoned Him back immediately to His seat in glory, for His help could not restore her faith in this album.  Woah! Continue reading “[Music Review] Brandy’s Two Eleven”

Ladies on Fire: Michelle Ochs and Carly Cushnie

Does the name Cushnie et Ochs ring any bells? It should. The collaborative label was launched in 2009 by two fierce ladies, Michelle Ochs and Carly Cushnie, destined to conquer the world of fashion. Maryland born and raised Ochs met British born Cushnie at Parsons The New School of Design and the two immediately clicked. Ochs already had a collection of Polo shirts, but by the time she and Carly started working together their individually unique styles intertwined and morphed into a chic and sophisticated fashion label demanded by celebrities. Stars like Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Zoe Saldana, Kristen Stewart, Reese Witherspoon, and Olivia Wilde are all devoted fans to the line. Sure their designs costs a week’s or month’s paycheck but one should always appreciate sensible fashion whenever you come across such.

It’s rather interesting how two women of two very different backgrounds can join forces and create something so spectacular. Many have asked how they make it work and whenever the question arises both would break it down in a cool way. On their designs, Cushnie says “the collection is a lot about skin-revealing it and concealing it. I’m attracted to strong lines and shapes that help sculpt the body.” And in regards to their individual style, Ochs clarifies “she can pull off anything feminine or what requires breasts. Sometimes I feel boyish.”

Michelle and Carly hope to venture further in fashion by launching shoes, handbags, and accessories. But until then I’m sure they’re waiting for their clothing line to soak in for a few more years before taking on anything else. Until then, enjoy the simple yet edgy designs they have to offer. Check out my favorite designs from the label’s Resort 2013 collection below: Continue reading “Ladies on Fire: Michelle Ochs and Carly Cushnie”
