Well, aside from the fact that there are millions around the world living on far less to nothing a day, I’m pretty sure if you want to survive then you CAN live on $1.50 a day. I recently came across a yahoo news highlighting the fact that several celebrities are taking it upon themselves to do just that, from April 29 to May 3, in support of the Live Below the Line Campaign. The project focuses on extreme poverty and challenges any individual who dares to join the cause, to spend 5 days feeding themselves with only that amount each of those days.
Live Below the Line is an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign that’s making a huge difference in the fight against extreme poverty.
Quite simply, we’re building a movement of passionate people willing and able to make a meaningful difference to those who need it most.
Live Below the Line is challenging individuals and communities to see how much change you can make out of $1.50. By living off just $1.50 per day for food for 5 days, you will be bringing to life the direct experiences of the 1.4 billion people currently living in extreme poverty and helping to make real change.
Think about that figure – 1.4 BILLION – that’s over 4 times the population of the United States – living every day in extreme poverty.
This cause definitely made me ask myself the question and it also made me realize that there are days when I don’t even spend money at all. But, there are days where, trust me, I spend far more than $1.50. So, I decided to take it up on myself to participate in this 5 day challenge and see how well I do. After all, what if I didn’t have any choice but to spend just that a day? What if I was truly in that situation? I guess we should always appreciate the fact that we don’t.
What do you think about this campaign? Are you willing to participate? Have you taken the challenge already? Let us know.
