Tiffany Arbuckle Lee, internationally known as Plumb, is a Christian Contemporary artist who has spawn a number of inspirational songs that have touched many hearts since her debut. It is a wonder how I managed to get the performer to take some time to grant us an interview, when she’s constantly touring and spreading love through her beautiful music. Check out the viral for her hit single and album title, Need You Now, and continue below for the exclusive:
Tell us a bit about your background; where are you from and at what point did you realize you wanted to become a singer-songwriter?
I’m from Indianapolis, IN. I’ve been singing my entire life…more just as a pleasure…it was when a label called me after hearing me sing that I considered it as a career path for the first real time.
What inspired the stage name Plumb?
Suzanne Vega’s song “my favorite plum” from her ‘9 objects of desire’ record.
Who are some of your biggest influences?
Alanis Morissette, The Cure, Poe, Patty Griffin, Suzanne Vega, Garbage, U2.
Describe your musical style and what separates it from the rest?
Sophisticated epic Pop/Rock…it’s ability to connect on such a personal level w/ raw emotion to an incredibly diverse audience of people.
Can you share the direction you went in with your most recent album, Need You Now, and how have you evolved as an artist and as a woman over the years, since your debut until now?
We made the record very different than in the past in how long we took…we wrote more songs than in the past and had more to choose from and took as much time as we needed to get it right…so it was a matter of making what we thought was an authentic plumb album and not being “done” until otherwise. Evolved? I’ve grown as both and artist and woman. I’ve become more seasoned as a writer and artist and know better what works and what doesn’t. As a woman, I’ve become more empowered and intentional. Now a wife and mother, my art is that much more important to be faithful with…because it affects more than just me.
I’ve read that there was a time you considered leaving music but was encouraged to continue singing after receiving a note from one of your fans. Can you tell us about that moment and how it impacted you?
It was the right place at the right time. A fan wrote me a letter about how my music had impacted her life in the exact way that I hope to impact my listeners and it was at a time when I was feeling very discouraged about all of it. I had left my first label and wasn’t sure what was next. I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder from unmet expectations and her letter simply changed my attitude.
Aside from music, you’ve been working on a book. What’s the title, premise, and when can your fans expect its release?
Yes, it’s called “Need You Now, a story of hope”. It’s a memoir with an emphasis on hope, due out this fall on my headlining tour, “need you now, the stories of hope tour.”
You’ve also been doing tours so you’re not really gone from the entertainment scene, but are you in the studio as well? Is there a 7th studio album coming soon?
Yes, I have heavily toward this last year more than I have ever toured, and when I am home I am songwriting and in the studio and yes, another album is coming out next year. However, this fall with the headlining tour and the book, I am re-releasing a deluxe version of my existing record… With songs that are a complement to the book.
Thanks so much for taking the time. Please leave a message to your fans as well as aspiring artists.
There is always hope. Don’t make decisions based on how you feel and what is right in front of you but rather make decisions on the confidence that you have in something greater than yourself.
