City of Split: The Mediterranean Flower

The beautiful city of Split blooms on the sunny Croatian coast. Its beautiful, historic streets crowd happily around the square of Diocletian’s Palace, surrounded by mediaeval walls. The green of Marjan’s hill surges out from the town towards the Adriatic Sea which calmly stretches out to the horizon, dotted with paradise islands just waiting to be explored. Split is one of the best known tourist towns in Croatia and when you visit its picturesque streets and gaze out from the Riva towards the islands it is very easy to see why so many people choose to visit this fantastic destination each year.

– Getting to Split
Most international travellers will arrive in Split by plane. The airport is not actually situated in Split but by nearby Trogir but it is easy to get from the airport to the centre of the city. You can take a hire car, bus, or taxi transfer from the terminal direct to your accommodation or to the heart of the old town.

– Getting Around
Once in city, most of the attractions can easily be visited on foot, though you can take a taxi or public transport to visit some attractions outwith the city, like Kastela or the ancient Roman remains of Salona. Be sure to walk around the old town and explore the Roman ruins of Diocletian’s Palace. One of the main draws of this part of the world though are the islands off the coast. Ferries will take you to some of the closer islands from the old harbour in Split, though for true freedom of the seas it could be a good idea to charter a yacht. Boat charter is the best way to see the myriad islands of the Adriatic and can be one of the best ways to escape the crowds and find a quiet cove or secluded bay all to yourself.

– Getting Out and About
Split is a fantastic city though it can get quite busy during the peak months. If you are looking for a Croatian idyll for the holiday of a lifetime then Split can be an excellent base from which to explore, so consider leaving the beautiful city behind and setting sail for adventure. Why not think about boat rental? By hiring a yacht you will be able to visit serene Solta, beautiful Brac, happening Hvar and many more. This is the perfect way to get off the beaten track and find out what this area is really all about. From chic yacht-filled marinas to tranquil fishing villages, from busy beaches to quiet coves where only the sound of the wind and the waves will compete with the cries of sea birds, you are bound to fall in love with Croatia’s sun-graced and timeless appeal.

So, if you are planning a visit to Croatia this year, come to Split and let the wonders of the glorious Adriatic unfurl before your eyes. You will feel your troubles drifting away on the calm waves as you sit and relax overlooking the ocean.
