Whether she’s singing an operatic aria, a musical theater standard or a tune she helped to write, Sara Steven’s ability to embody the soul of a song is a rare gift. What’s even more amazing is that she is only 15 years old. Growing up in Marietta, Georgia, Sara’s abilities were evident at a very early age. Her parents encouraged her love of music by taking her to a performance of La Boheme at the Met at age 6. That trip to the Met sparked Sara’s interest and drive for performing, resulting in being cast in the Atlanta Opera’s production of the same opera the following year. A turning point came in 2012 when Sara entered and won first place in the American Protégé International Music Competition, receiving the chance to perform on the legendary stage at Carnegie Hall. 2015 has seen Sara recording a variety of material and performing across the country. These days, Sara works closely with Paul Schwartz of Phantom of the Opera fame. Check out her music video for the song Promise, and continue below for our quick interview with the talented singer:
“Yesterday was history, Tomorrow is a mystery, but Today is a gift that is why it’s called the Present. This line is a from Kung Fu Panda and I think it’s one of the most beautiful sayings I have ever heard.
All and all I’m a very positive person. I’m happy, curious, playful, outgoing, and then there are days when I want to have some time to myself. I’m 15 and life is pretty awesome.
Since my schedule is so busy, I have to make sure I get enough sleep. I’ve been trying to change some bad habits with some healthier habits, and I drink a lot of water and I get my physical every year.
That’s a really hard question because my answer could change day by day. There are so many places I would love to visit and yes I would love to sing there as well. So I really can’t name only one place, but I could name quite a few.
Music, perfume and my phone.
I can’t even imagine not having music in my life. I don’t feel dressed without my perfume, and I really think my phone is stuck to my hand.
I can go from cozy Uggs to a formal gown. This year has been very different for me because I feel like I’m coming into myself more and more. So along with my girly girl likes I’ve discovered I love the edgy look, of leather and fringe and of course I love my jean jacket.
I love movies! I can go to the theater or I can stay at home and watch one. It’s just a great way to relax, and take it easy.
Prayer. I feel like when I pray, I’m building my relationship with Christ. For me I feel like it’s a great way to stay focused and grounded.
Italian!! Everything I love is in it. Pasta, Bread, Parmesan Cheese… I know they aren’t the things I’m suppose to have but I think they’re Delicioso!
I love to draw. I’ve been drawing since the same time when I discovered singing. My feelings come out in my drawings and it’s so much like that with my songs.
