Continuing to prove why she’s one of Canada’s most rapidly rising pop stars, Olivia Penalva has released the official lyric video for her expressive new single “Ex’s.” The official track follows Penalva’s recent Western Canadian Music Award (WCMA) nominations for Pop Artist of the Year and Breakout Artist of the Year.

“This song is all about kissing someone that doesn’t belong to you, so I wanted the video to include the cheeky elements such as the lips and the kissing couple to highlight the concept of how temptation can be fun but can also take you too far,” shares Penalva. “The team who created this video spent countless hours perfecting every detail and did such an amazing job bringing my vision to life. I think my favorite part is the contrast from bright and pink to dark and glowy that happens when the chorus hits. It is such a creative video and truly reflects my personality. I love every detail incorporated and hope everyone else loves it as well.”

With its sultry vibe, “Ex’s” displays Penalva’s on-going artistic evolution. Mixed by Josh Gudwin (Justin Bieber), Penalva co-wrote the track with Ryan Stewart and Tavish Crowe (Carly Rae Jepsen), intensifying its powerful pop prowess. “Ex’s” is part of a collection of songs that Penalva has been crafting with some of the music industry’s top writers and producers, including Nolan Sipe (Jonas Brothers), David “Messy” Mescon (Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande), Phil Barton (Lee Brice), Brian Howes (Simple Plan), Patricia Conroy and Dave Thompson (Lady A), Troy Samson (Kelly Rowland), and many more.

From the moment Penalva first heard her voice on the radio at age 14, there was no turning back. Her 2016 single “Skyline (The Madlucky Remix)” earned two iHeartRadio Future Star Awards, in addition to charting Top 40 in three different formats. Her cover of Calum Scott’s “You Are The Reason” logged over 3.2 million streams and was placed on America’s Got Talent, and her cover of John Hiatt’s “Have a Little Faith In Me” was placed on American Idol.

In 2020, Penalva released her single “Love Me,” which quickly amassed a staggering 38 million TikTok views and 1.2 million streams. It was the #2 most added song at CHR Mediabase, charted at #17 on pop radio, and landed Penalva on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Canada’s Emerging Artist Chart. 

Now 21, Penalva owns Isabelle Music Group and has most recently signed with Decoded Music Group/Virgin Music. As the time draws ever closer for her new album to arrive, she has her sights fully trained on keeping the fun times coming, while continually striving to present her most authentic self in her songs.

“I have been interested in music for as long as I can remember, but never imagined it could be my career,” admits Penalva.
