Album Review: Koda Kumi’s W Face ~Outside~

Gosh. I can’t remember the last time I listened to a Koda Kumi album. Actually, I think the last one I purchased and listened to was JAPONESQUE. For some reason, her music hadn’t grabbed my attention since then, but after catching snippetsย of her latest double album release, specifically the Outside version, I must say I’m loving the sound of Koda Kumi once again. Maybe it’s … Continue reading Album Review: Koda Kumi’s W Face ~Outside~

[Album Review] After School’s “Playgirlz”

After School has always been my favorite kpop girl group. I like their style; not particularly the member system in place, but mainly their musical concepts. And as much as I like them, I never allowed that to overshadow my judgement on any of their releases. If the song sucks, I’ll be honest and admit it just as quick as I am to admit when it sounds pretty hot. After School, more precisely their leader, has tasteful elements in whatever it is they deliver to their target market. Unfortunately, the group hasn’t received greater recognition for their hard work, still they continue to strive for that wish they sought out to achieve. Recently, AS has ventured into the Jpop market in hopes of acquiring a wider range of feedback not yet completely felt in their homeland. So far, I’m not necessarily impressed but I believe they’ll improve because in all honesty, they usually do. Thus the birth of their first Jpop album ‘Playgirlz‘. [Review] May.J’s “Secret Diary”

Released: 1.25.2012

-Japanese R&B/Urban Pop singer May J. has unveiled her fifth studio album, โ€œSECRET DIARY.โ€ The title was enough to intrigue me into anticipating the albumโ€™s arrival but the short clips had me sold. In the entertainment business image is everything, even placed at a higher level than talent. In Mayโ€™s case, itโ€™s all about the talent, and of course her beauty is a wonderful addition. I had a good listen to the entire album and was well pleased with the songs. Diversity is very much emphasized; pointing out the singerโ€™s ability to challenge herself in different genres. Whether it’s electro pop, r&b ballads, or bubbly dance, May J. has proven to me that thereโ€™s a wide range of โ€˜secretsโ€™ in her โ€˜diaryโ€™. As for the story behind the new album, letโ€™s look back on May’s description during our interview:

โ€œIn this album, Iโ€™m expressing the inner side of me that I couldnโ€™t show to other people. Such as: my worst relationship with my boyfriend or like a broken friendship with my best friend. I have also put lots of positive messages to this album.โ€

So, my fellow readers keep that in mind while I take you through my own interpretation of each song on โ€˜Secret Diary.โ€™ Continue reading “[Review] May.J’s “Secret Diary””

VERBAL & Drake in “Some Other Place”

VISIONAIR

VERBAL, a Japanese rapper and member of hip hop group M-flo, has teamed up with Young Money star Drake on his latest single “Some Other Place“. The song is from VERBAL’s first solo album “VISIONAIR“, which will be released on March 16th, but can be pre-ordered now on amazon. The collaborative track “Black Out” withย Namie Amuro & Lil Wayne (Young Money founder) is also included on the album, because it’s actually VERBAL’s song and they’re the guest artists riding on it. “Black Out” is also included on Namie’s album “Checkmate“, which we also posted about recently. “Some Other Place” sounds hot in the teaser but as you may have discovered from my previous rants on the topic, I hate auto-tune. That’s the downfall to this song, other than that it’s hot. Listen to the snippet and tell me what do you think? Continue reading “VERBAL & Drake in “Some Other Place””

Namie Amuro & After School “Makes It Happen”

We recently posted about Japanese hip-pop artist Namie Amuro‘s upcoming collaboration album “Checkmate“, and the variety of artists she has worked with. Well, another music video has been released and its for her song “Make it Happen“, which she collaborated on with Kpop girl group After School. The song sounds really good and I like how harmonized After School is. The music video has sex appeal and cute choreography, which showcases After School’s talents alongside Amuro’s. Watch the music video below and tell us what you think: Continue reading “Namie Amuro & After School “Makes It Happen””

Namie Amuro collaborates with Lil’ Wayne?

Japanese hip-pop artist Namie Amuro will be releasing a collaboration album titled “Checkmate” on March 23rd, and the full tracklist was recently revealed on her official website. Aside from the fact that Namie will be collaborating with Kpop group After School on what seems to be their first release in Japan, American rapper Lil’ Wayneย has also made an appearance on the album. I’m not surprised that Amuro is working with a western rapper, in fact this collab is quite interesting. You can listen to the snippet below. Namie’s collab album also includes artists AI, Yamashita Tomohisa, and Tsuchiya Anna: Continue reading “Namie Amuro collaborates with Lil’ Wayne?”

Ayumi “does it again” with a “love song”

I found these two short music videos online by Jpop queen Ayumi Hamasaki. “Love Song” depicts some sort of loss, while “Do It Again” shows Ayumi being oblivious to a disaster around her. These two singles are included on Ayumi’s 12th album “Love Songs“, which will be released December 22, 2010.

Both music videos are quite interesting, so I advise you to check both out below and watch the entire thing when it’s release later on:
