[Music Review] Yuri Koller “Open Doors”

Yuri Koller is a Toronto based vocalist, songwriter, and producer. His latest effort, Open Doors, came to us via a short sweet email from the man himself. It is a mashup of hiphop, RnB, and soul. Personally, I struggled to find any soul esque notes in his music, hence it just being a contemporary R&B album. If you miss the 90s era, his music re-ignites that vibe effortlessly.

In terms of production, his crew consisting of Cxaleb,SE7N, Oliver Grey, Korruption, and the Masterminds and Nexus Movement, went hard in the paint for him. Both Kai and I were impressed with their professional efforts. Shourr ourrs to dem! Overall, it is a very well produced and cohesive sophomore project. Apparently, this cutie has been on his grind for a minute…Nyhoo, journey with me as I review, and let’s see whether he gets a (-) to the nth power, or an (A*) rating.

Music Review: Tamia’s “Beautiful Surprise”

Release date: August 28th 2012

Label: Plus1 Music Group

Purchase: Amazon | iTunes

Rating: 5/5

Are you tired of the far from authentic and beyond washed-up so-called music playing on the airways? Then Tamia’s latest album is sure to remind you what it truly means to not only have natural talent but to also deliver substantial songs that won’t leave you feeling like throwing up. “Beautiful Surprise” is the epitome of r&b and soul, something very lacking at the moment. Thankfully, Tamia isn’t fazed by trends and chooses to hold tight to her musical roots while belting out fresh melodies on each track.  Continue reading “Music Review: Tamia’s “Beautiful Surprise””

Following your dream

I’m in the process of finally realizing a longtime dream, of which I won’t go into detail until it comes to fruition. I’m African, and I believe in juju, very superstitious if you will. I don’t know whether my reader base is aware, but Benin is the cradle of vodoo in Africa, as Haiti is for the Caribbean. Why am I telling you this? Sharing is caring, and the more knowledge you acquire in this journey called life, the better off you will be.  Ehe….(said in a thick African accent of your country’s choice). [Exclusive] Discovering Real Music “In My Coma”

When I heard the name In My Coma, my initial reaction was “what kinda name is that?” but then it all made sense once I discovered Magnets & Miracles. Words can’t even describe the feeling that takes over when I listen to their music. There’s absolutely nothing generic about it. It’s real, emotional, and pure talent. Trust me when I say that you’re missing out if you have no idea who In My Coma is, so waste no more time and purchase their debut album now.

Be sure to check out the video for “Losing Sleep,” one of my favorites, and of course, continue below for my exclusive interview with lead vocalist Jasper James:  Continue reading “[Exclusive] Discovering Real Music “In My Coma””

[Music Review] Melanie Fiona’s ‘The MF Life’

My sincerest apologies for the two day absence but I needed time to collect my thoughts.

Melanie Fiona has a new album out. Well, to be more precise, the album has been released since mid-March. ‘The MF Life‘ is the singer’s sophomore effort highlighting a turning point in her life. The music comes harder this time around. The words are real and unapologetic. It’s Melanie Fiona like you’ve never heard her before, and after listening to the new album you’ll completely understand what I’m talking about.  Continue reading “[Music Review] Melanie Fiona’s ‘The MF Life’”

Nelly Furtado Returns With ‘Big Hoops’

The Canadian singer has been M.I.A for several years now and I’m sure many like myself are beyond elated to have her back. She was definitely missed to a point of almost forgotten, but thankfully ‘Big Hoops‘ is released before Nelly is completely erased from our memories. This is the first single from Furtado’s upcoming Summer album, “The Spirit Indestructible.” Check out the eccentric track and tell us what you think. It’s good that the singer has kept her cray cray style. Continue reading “Nelly Furtado Returns With ‘Big Hoops’”

For Thought: Afghan Family Found Guilty In ‘Honor’ Killings

Mohammad Shafia, his wife Tooba Yahya, and their son Hamed were each found guilty of four counts of first degree murder in Canada for the killing of three teenage sisters and another woman in what is described as a ‘twisted concept of honor.’ According to the AP, prosecutors said the defendants allegedly killed the three teenage sisters because they dishonored the family by defying its disciplinarian rules on dress, dating, socializing and using the Internet. For Thought: B.C. wife killer to appeal conviction

Mukhtiar Panghali held a news conference after he reported his wife missing, tearfully begging for her return. CBC Manjit Panghali was five months pregnant when slain by her husband.

A man from British Columbia, Canada who was convicted of killing his pregnant wife and leaving her burnt remains on a beach outside Vancouver is seeking an appeal for his second degree murder charge. The convict, Mukhtiar Panghali, was trialed back in March before a judge and without a jury. He was then sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. Abel Tesfaye gives you “The Weeknd” you’ll never forget

Abel Tesfaye, better known by his stage name The Weeknd, is a Canadian r&b singer. His song “High For This” can be heard in the promo for the final season of the HBO series “Entourage“. The Weeknd released the mixtape “House of Balloons” in March 2011, and will be releasing two follow-ups later this year. His songs, if words were to be used to describe them, are dramatic, passionate, raw, and unique. Not to mention he’s a wonderful vocalist. I’ve never heard an artist like this before so that makes him very incomparable. The Weeknd’s identity Continue reading “Abel Tesfaye gives you “The Weeknd” you’ll never forget”

Avril makes us “Smile”

Avril Lavigne has unveiled her latest music video for “Smile“, the second single from her 4th studio album “Goodbye Lullaby“. I like the video because it features Avril in one scene rocking out and putting her spray painting skills to work, and in another scene she’s walking around collecting peoples broken hearts. In return, she puts a smile on their faces and ensembles a huge heart for herself in the end. The video switches between a green color theme to black & white. I love it; its simple and cool, and “Smile” is one of my favorite songs on the album, read my review if you didn’t know. Check out the music video below and if you haven’t purchased “Goodbye Lullaby” yet then stop wasting time and go support Avril now.

Canada shows Shania Twain big love!

Arguably known as the princess of Country Pop, Shania Twain was formally inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the Juno Awards held in Toronto on March 27th. At the 40th Junos, which was hosted by Bryan Adams, Twain accepted her award with great pride and humility, and completely forgetting her own talents stating “I’m really so proud of Canada’s talent. I sit here tonight in … Continue reading Canada shows Shania Twain big love!
