Book Review: ‘Fated’ by Alyson Noël

Soul Seekers Book #1 Published May 22nd 2012 by St. Martin’s Press Rating: 5/5 Daire Santos is not your average teenager. She’s spent most of her life travelling alongside her mother, Jennika, who’s a make-up artist on movie sets. It’s nice having the opportunity to see exotic destinations, but moving constantly leaves both mother and daughter with no room for commitments; whether it be friendships or intimate … Continue reading Book Review: ‘Fated’ by Alyson Noël

Book Review – ‘Hemlock’ by Kathleen Peacock

Hemlock could be the perfect town, aside from the fact that its swarmed with werewolves. Many of its residents suffer from Lupine Syndrome-also known as the werewolf virus-and are either thrust away to rehabilitation camps, or hiding the fact that they’re infected. No biggie, except the infected living in secret could also suffer from the uncontrollable urge to kill.

Mackenzie and Amy were inseparable until Amy was brutally killed by a werewolf.  Now, Mac is determined to find her best friend’s killer and put an end to her horrifying dreams, but what she doesn’t know is that the killer is closer to her than she thinks.

Kathleen Peacock delivers a suspenseful, mysterious, and romantic urban fantasy that will leave you blindsided.

======

Like most, I was deeply attracted to the alluring cover art of ‘Hemlock.’ The synopsis didn’t seem so bad either and I went into this book with high expectations. When I say high, I mean I was expecting bloody hunts, unstoppable action, and heated romances. What I got was Continue reading “Book Review – ‘Hemlock’ by Kathleen Peacock”

[Exclusive] Alma Katsu is ready to ‘Take’ on anything.

Alma Katsu has embarked on a journey that began way back in her childhood. Sure she’s spent a part of her life doing something different and without a doubt non-fictional, but Katsu has never given up on her passion to delve into the world of fantasy.

Katsu’s debut novel, ‘The Taker‘, has stolen the hearts of many avid readers, including myself. Her decision to write about the dark side of love, lust and power was quite a bold move, as only a few taking on the Gothic genre has ever really made any lasting impression. However, Alma’s novel leaves you hungry for more, and a sequel is very much appreciated and accepted. The day of ‘reckoning‘ shall surely come.

Check out our exclusive interview with the author below and be sure to pick up a copy of The Taker if you haven’t already and start reading today:

The First Tease For ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’ Unveiled

The final part in the Twilight Saga was split into two so as to prolong the love fans have for these fantasy characters. The first trailer for the second part to Breaking Dawn has been unleased and I went through all sorts of emotions beside being impressed. It didn’t offer much, which is highly expected being that the movie comes out all the way down … Continue reading The First Tease For ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2’ Unveiled

The Hunger Games: Hit or Miss?

Stop with the comparisons already, ‘Hunger Games‘ is far from ‘Twilight‘ and even better. If you thought this was going to be another cheesy love struck teen flick about mythical species glistening in the sunlight then I suggest you read the book and watch the film to understand just what exactly is going on. ‘The Hunger Games‘ is a dystopian novel/film depicting the formation of various groups. Apparently, a youngest is chosen to represent his/her region and is sent to participate in the ‘Hunger Games’, a strategic and very much horrific survival of the fitness challenge where people will die.  Continue reading “The Hunger Games: Hit or Miss?”

Book Review – ‘Illuminate’ by Aimee Agresti

Haven Terra, along with her equally smart best friend Dante and another classmate Lance, landed an internship with the prestigious Lexington Hotel in Chicago. This is evidently an opportunity fit for the privileged and though all three teens excel in their studies, neither had applied for such nor could they fathom the reason as to why they were specifically chosen.

Haunted by her own issues of not knowing who she really was, where she came from or what caused the unsightly scars on her body, Haven is appreciative of the given chance to intern at such a luxurious location in hopes of getting highly recommended to a college of her dreams. However, she has no idea of the ulterior motives their new mentors and the ‘Outfits’ have in store for them, nor the part she’ll have to play in altering their plans for humanity.

Illuminate” is a story about mystery, manipulation, romance, power, desire, and of course the on-going battle of good and evil.  Continue reading “Book Review – ‘Illuminate’ by Aimee Agresti”

Book Review – ‘Enchanted’ by Alethea Kontis

Monday’s child is fair of face,

Tuesday’s child is full of grace,

Wednesday’s child is full of woe,

Thursday’s child has far to go,

Friday’s child is loving and giving,

Saturday’s child works hard for a living,

But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day Is blithe and bonny and good and gay.

Alethea Kontis’ “Enchanted” is a mixture of all the endearing fantasies we enjoyed as children. The title alone pulls you into a fairy tale playground and leaving it would be far too unkind. After all, ‘we’re all doomed to a happy life.’ The storyline is rather alluring and I must applaud on the author’s effortless delivery that comes out undeniably appealing. This is the kind of book deserving of your attention and holds it inescapably.  Continue reading “Book Review – ‘Enchanted’ by Alethea Kontis”

[Exclusive] Jessie Harrell Is Facing Her ‘Destiny’

Interview by Kai

I was instantly mesmerized by the alluring cover of Jessie Harrell‘s debut novel, “Destined.” That certainly invited me to read the author’s work and learn more about the woman behind it all. So, just who is Jessie Harrell? Well, she’s not among the authors writing novels about the usual vampires and werewolves. Harrell is a wife, mother, occasional traveler, and lover of  ancient myths. I’m certain that the tagline “you cannot escape what is destined” not only applies to her first book but to the writer ‘Beneath the Surface‘ as well. And I suggest you jump on board, read her debut and get in the know because another masterpiece is set for release.

Check out our exclusive interview below to learn more: Continue reading “[Exclusive] Jessie Harrell Is Facing Her ‘Destiny’”

’10’ Facts About Jessie

Jessie Harrell released her debut novel “Destined” last November but many, including myself, are still very much infatuated with how intriguing and well written it is. It’s a wonderful introduction to the world of YA novels and a definite breath of fresh air from the usual vampires, werewolves, and demons. Jessie is a lover of Greek Mythology and this is the biggest inspiration behind her writing so I’m pretty much anticipating her future releases if she’s continuing on with this concept.

The author not only granted us an exclusive interview but also took on our ’10’ quick questions and provided some really interesting answers. Check it out below: Continue reading “’10’ Facts About Jessie”

“Snow White” with a twist

Charlize Theron becomes an evil queen, while Kristen Stewart continues her addiction to fantasy roles in the new movie “Snow White & The Huntsman.” The best thing about this film, besides the otherworldly magic, is the fact that hottie Chris Hemsworth has a starring role, Theron’s looking all witchy, and Snow White isn’t necessarily a helpless damsel, she’s actually fighting as well. The film hits theatres … Continue reading “Snow White” with a twist

“Underworld 4?”

263494-'Underworld 4' Changes Title From 'New Dawn' to 'Awakening'

Len Wiseman, director of the first two Underworld films, had quite a few details to give regarding the franchise’s fourth installment. Apparently, his wife and leading lady Kate Beckinsale will reprise her role as the vampire heroin Selene. ‘Underworld: Awakening‘, as its being called, will have humans trying to destroy both vampires and lycans. I must say I’m quite curious as to how they will structure this film as in ‘Underworld: Evolution‘ both Selene and her lycan boyfriend lost their respective abilities after killing the first vampire, so how they’ll suddenly regain their otherworldly powers? Let’s wait and see. As for Wiseman, well he won’t be directing this one because according to his interview at Comic Con, he has too much on his plate already with the ‘Total Recall‘ remake: Continue reading ““Underworld 4?””

Deadly “Rubber”

Rubber Poster

While checking out some new movie trailers today, I came across a rather interesting and creepy movie called “Rubber“. Rubber is a film directed and written by Quentin Dupieux, and tells the story of an inanimate tire with destructive capabilities, who falls in love with a human girl, but encounters plenty of trouble along the way. As silly as this plot seems, I would definitely go watch it in theaters because the movie is quite different, and enables you to take a break from the usual.

Rubber stars Stephen Spinella and will be released on February 25, 2011. Watch the trailer below:
