Rihanna, at the center of controversy again

I guess as long as Rihanna continues to defy all sense of normalcy she’ll always be leading the pack when it comes to controversial music and videos. In her latest work of art (or weirdness) safely titled “We Found Love,” the pop star portrays a European gal living a wild and risky lifestyle, but that’s not the part that has critics riled up. Besides the evident fact that the male lead in the video has somewhat of a slight resemblance to r&b/pop crooner Chris Brown (must be the horrific bleached blonde hair), there are several scenes depicting heated arguments between the two characters, particularly the one taking place in their car. This led many (excluding me) to believe that Continue reading “Rihanna, at the center of controversy again”

Nicki Minaj “Flies” with Rihanna

Ms. Barbie has revealed her latest work of art. The music video for the single “Fly,” which features pop singer Rihanna, has various concepts ranging from scenes inspired by a disaster movie to straight up ninja assassins. And Rihanna has never been so covered up in a video these days so I must give her props for that too. I really like the purpose of … Continue reading Nicki Minaj “Flies” with Rihanna

2011 Billboard Music Awards Red Carpet

Stars were either looking hot or a hot mess on the red carpet at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards held in Las Vegas. The BMAs are given out to music’s most popular artists. The finalists and winners are determined by their rank on the Billboard charts and their “social and streaming activities. The three hour event was packed with hot performances, but despite being an award show it was more like a promotional ground for pop artists to showcase their latest music. Anyways, check out the fashion hits and misses below: Continue reading “2011 Billboard Music Awards Red Carpet”

Who is Jesse Williams?

Jesse Williams is no stranger to the film industry; the model and actor got his start in television dramas like “Law & Order“, “Beyond the Break“, and later “Greek“. Jesse had his first movie role in “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2“, and appeared in the Joss Whedon horror flick “The Cabin in the Woods“. He’s often described as a young actor with incredible talent (and looks), and I’m always anticipating his next move.

Jesse was born in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from university with degrees in Film & Media Art and African American Studies. Continue reading “Who is Jesse Williams?”

Rihanna has daddy issues?

In this month’s issue of Vogue, pop star Rihanna opens up about finding self-acceptance, relationships, and her father. Spotlight – Skylar Grey

Meet Skylar Grey, an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. Skylar is best known from the Fort Minor single “Where’d You Go” under the name Holly Brook, and the songwriter for Eminem & Rihanna’s hit “Love The Way You Lie“.

Skylar Grey was born Holly Brook Hafermann in Wisconsin. As a child, she performed in a folk duo called Generations alongside her mother. Generations recorded three albums: “Dream Maker“, “Lift Me“, and “Millennial Child/Waiting For You“. Grey joined a band when she was 15 years old, and at 18 moved to Los Angeles to record her first demo. Continue reading “Spotlight – Skylar Grey”

Kanye West “All Of The Lights” MV

Kanye has released the music video for his single “All of the Lights“, and I’m actually feeling this song. It’s my second favorite along with “Runaway” from his “Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” album. The music video was directed by Hype Williams and features Kid Cudi, Rihanna, along with a dozen other singers which I have no time to mention. The video somewhat plays on the lyrics to the song, depicting issues faced by families in society. I particularly liked that the song has substance, but what I didn’t appreciate was Rihanna’s outfit in the video (sorry to diss you on your b-day). Why must this chick make everything about sex when it’s not even that kind of song. Anyways, see the video for yourselves and tell us what you think. Top Ten Albums I’m Not Into

No Boys Allowed Loud

I don’t know what’s going on with the following list of artists, but their latest albums are just not as explosive in terms of concept, both music and lyrics. These ten albums, in my opinion just lack raw passion. I’ve listened to them all and have found just a few songs or none at all that could save the album. Check out the list below to see who I’m talking about:

Artists Have To Sexify Their Music To Make It Sell?

A question that has always been on my mind for years: why do artists sexify themselves in order to sell music? Females show a lot of skin in barely there outfits, and perform provocative dance moves, while the males sing about sex, sex, and more sex.

Is that what a musician have to do in order to become a “superstar” so to speak? Is that why artists like Vivian Green, Heather Headley and Jazmine Sullivan are underrated, because they are more ‘conservative’?

Auto-Tune 2: Will The Real Singers Please Stand Up

Gone are the days when singers were freely and passionately singing without the help of “pitch correction”, yes, I am referring to the infamous auto-tune. This is a continuation of my previous post, “what do you think about auto-tune?” Why the continuation you wonder? it’s because i’m truly annoyed with this audio processor that is plaguing the music industry.

Too many artists are utilizing auto-tune into their music: Ke$ha, T-Pain, The Black Eyed Peas, Akon, Kanye West, Jason Derulo, Rihanna, Lil Wayne, and quite a few others. I found it rather ironic that Jay-Z released a single titled “DOA (Death of Auto-tune)”, but still used the device on another track, and on the same album (ain’t that funny).

RiRi’s the “Only Girl” in the world

only girl

Rihanna‘s “Only Girl (In The World)” music video was released and it has an interesting concept: she’s the only girl in her world. The video depicts Rihanna lying in a field, standing on hill tops, dancing among flowers, and sitting on a swing that hangs from the sky. The music video gives off a “What Dreams May Come” feel. A surreal imagery. See for yourself: Continue reading “RiRi’s the “Only Girl” in the world”
