[Music Review] Melanie Fiona’s ‘The MF Life’

My sincerest apologies for the two day absence but I needed time to collect my thoughts.

Melanie Fiona has a new album out. Well, to be more precise, the album has been released since mid-March. ‘The MF Life‘ is the singer’s sophomore effort highlighting a turning point in her life. The music comes harder this time around. The words are real and unapologetic. It’s Melanie Fiona like you’ve never heard her before, and after listening to the new album you’ll completely understand what I’m talking about.  Continue reading “[Music Review] Melanie Fiona’s ‘The MF Life’”

Music Review: Rihanna’s “Talk That Talk”

Rihanna

Release date: November 21, 2011

Label: Roc Nation/Island Def Jam

Purchase: Amazon

I discontinued my interest in anything that had to do with Rihanna since her dark transformation from a “Good Girl Gone Bad.” Let’s just say that I’m not buying the ‘this is really me now’ bit she’s blabbering about. Now and then she does release a song that sounds like an okay track and I can give her that much credit, but her music is still far from ground breaking. However, the pop star never ceases to entertain with her  antics; whether it’s gyrating on girls at a carnival, or grinding on stage in tasteless outfits. With all that foolishness aside, I would like to divert my attention to Ri-Ri’s latest effort, “Talk That Talk.”

Rihanna’s 6th album takes sex to another level. It’s true she’s always performed sexually suggestive songs before, but “Talk That Talk” is the raunchiest of them all. Each track is either coded or bare; it’s a matter of how well enough the listener can interpret the lyrics. There’s plenty of dance numbers, mellow r&b/pop balancers and a few island inspired to fill the mainstream airwaves. Too bad there’s hardly anything of great substance. Allow me to take you through Rihanna’s newest effort and highlight the highs and lows manifested in each track. Continue reading “Music Review: Rihanna’s “Talk That Talk””

Rihanna, at the center of controversy again

I guess as long as Rihanna continues to defy all sense of normalcy she’ll always be leading the pack when it comes to controversial music and videos. In her latest work of art (or weirdness) safely titled “We Found Love,” the pop star portrays a European gal living a wild and risky lifestyle, but that’s not the part that has critics riled up. Besides the evident fact that the male lead in the video has somewhat of a slight resemblance to r&b/pop crooner Chris Brown (must be the horrific bleached blonde hair), there are several scenes depicting heated arguments between the two characters, particularly the one taking place in their car. This led many (excluding me) to believe that Continue reading “Rihanna, at the center of controversy again”

Melanie Fiona’s “4AM”

"4 AM" Video (Behind-the-Scenes)

Melanie Fiona has unveiled the music video for my new fav, “4AM.” Unfortunately, the video didn’t receive the love I have for the single. It just didn’t stir up as much emotion as the lyrics did. The song’s about waiting (like a fool) for a man who’s out late messing around. It’s one of those relatable tracks about a situation women often find themselves in. And what’s sounding like a Weeknd production could very well be one of the hottest tracks off Melanie’s sophomore album “The MF Life“, or I could be getting ahead of myself with that one because the record hasn’t even  been released yet. Regardless, go ahead and check out the video and tell us what you think. Also, be sure to purchase the new single on iTunes. Continue reading “Melanie Fiona’s “4AM””

J. Cole’s “Work Out” MV

Check out the music video for J. Cole‘s latest single “Work Out“. I really like this rapper and I think he has a really cool style so I don’t get why he’s still an underdog in the rap game. People need to start recognizing real talent. The song samples Paula Abdul’s classic “Straight Up“, which was a little favorite of mine so that’s a plus … Continue reading J. Cole’s “Work Out” MV

Who is Alexis Jordan?

So just who is this acclaimed Roc Nation‘s “Good Girl“? Well, let me introduce you to South Carolina native Alexis Jordan. Think charisma, power vocals, cool dance moves, and you’ll pretty much sum up the talent of this exotic looking diva on the rise. You may remember Jordan from the first season of America’s Got Talent in 2006, and as the YouTube sensation who received millions of views for her renditions of hot songs. That’s right! the “Happiness” singer is ready to take the world by storm. And with the release of her self-titled debut album, Alexis is already making waves internationally and beyond.
