Book Review: ‘The Lies We Tell For Love’ by Mz. Robinson

Love, Lies & Lust #3

Published: February 7th 2012 by G Street Chronicles

I love street lit, better known as urban fiction. Like I literally get lost in the turmoil, and usually hood aspect of it all. The Lies We Tell For Love, revolves a young couple Damon Whitmore and his beautiful curvaceous lady, Octavia Ellis-Whitmore. It delves on what both them as individuals and as separate entities would do to fortify the love they have for each other. Continue reading “Book Review: ‘The Lies We Tell For Love’ by Mz. Robinson”

Book Review: ‘Fated’ by Alyson Noël

Soul Seekers Book #1 Published May 22nd 2012 by St. Martin’s Press Rating: 5/5 Daire Santos is not your average teenager. She’s spent most of her life travelling alongside her mother, Jennika, who’s a make-up artist on movie sets. It’s nice having the opportunity to see exotic destinations, but moving constantly leaves both mother and daughter with no room for commitments; whether it be friendships or intimate … Continue reading Book Review: ‘Fated’ by Alyson Noël

Smart Girls Get What They Want is a cute, witty, humorous, and empowering book for the brainy…and the average.

Book Review – ‘Hemlock’ by Kathleen Peacock

Hemlock could be the perfect town, aside from the fact that its swarmed with werewolves. Many of its residents suffer from Lupine Syndrome-also known as the werewolf virus-and are either thrust away to rehabilitation camps, or hiding the fact that they’re infected. No biggie, except the infected living in secret could also suffer from the uncontrollable urge to kill.

Mackenzie and Amy were inseparable until Amy was brutally killed by a werewolf.  Now, Mac is determined to find her best friend’s killer and put an end to her horrifying dreams, but what she doesn’t know is that the killer is closer to her than she thinks.

Kathleen Peacock delivers a suspenseful, mysterious, and romantic urban fantasy that will leave you blindsided.

======

Like most, I was deeply attracted to the alluring cover art of ‘Hemlock.’ The synopsis didn’t seem so bad either and I went into this book with high expectations. When I say high, I mean I was expecting bloody hunts, unstoppable action, and heated romances. What I got was Continue reading “Book Review – ‘Hemlock’ by Kathleen Peacock”

Alma ‘Takes’ 10

As flattering as it is to be compared to the likes of Anne Rice, Alma Katsu has her own unique stories to tell. With a hot debut under her belt and a very much anticipated follow-up on the way, the Alaska native certainly has the world of book lovers in a craze. Now, with my intro locked, let’s get down to business.

It’s always interesting how guests respond to our tradition ’10 quickies’, particularly writers, being that we’ve hardly the pleasure of having such individuals on EY. Well, what are you waiting for? Continue below to see Alma’s very ‘quick’ and interesting answers:

Domestic Abuse, infidelity & An Unusual Family

Jdramas surely know how to stir up ones emotions when they get intense, and Kare, Otto, Otoko Tomodachi was no exception. This series was my first to watch since the start of the new year, and I’m more than satisfied with what I’ve been given. It was only eight episodes lasting about forty minutes each and I stayed up all night watching the entire thing. At first, I was sort of skeptical with how I might receive this drama, due to the fact that two of the daughters portrayed whorish behavior, and the eldest was trapped in a violent marriage that I couldn’t save her from. However, once each character was broken down and the audience got to analyze them individually, you could see the causes behind their behavior and the kind of life they built for themselves.

Valentine’s Day is a marketing strategy?

It’s the day when couples do their utmost best to show their love and affection (through money) for each other. February hadn’t even started yet when chocolate, flowers, greeting cards and jewelry commercials began displaying Valentine’s Day specials on television, online, or in stores. Seems many companies use this romantic day as a business venture to rake in those bucks. And who can blame them. I feel like couples can’t simply say “happy Valentine’s Day” and give each other a kiss without spending their money, or going all out to get that perfect gift. I mean let’s be realistic people, the economy isn’t so great as it is, therefore we need to carefully manage our funds. Continue reading “Valentine’s Day is a marketing strategy?”

Single, broke, and depressed

Things don’t always work out the way you planned so it’s recommended that you always have a back-up. But what if life prevents you from even having a plan B? What if you took the one last chance you have left to be happy, knowing you had no other options to fall back on? Well, that’s exactly what my girl did; let’s just say that now she’s single, broke and depressed. This is the horrific conclusion when considering her current state of mind. If you’re looking from the outside in you might not get the clear picture of what’s really going on with her, but by simply observing without saying a word, you just might pick up Continue reading “Single, broke, and depressed”

Is Sex The Most Important Thing In Relationships?

Is sex really important in relationships, as in to make the relationship last? The truth is, it is an important aspect, but if it becomes the most important thing then the relationship won’t go too far. There are other things to building a lasting relationship and sex cannot be the only foundation.

The most important thing to build a relationship on is love and communication. Love is not the same as sex and will never be the same; ‘Making love’ with someone is not the same as having ‘sex’. If it’s just about sex then it becomes a physical thing with no meaning.
