What happens when you have ‘100’ members in a group?

By Kai

Okay well not exactly 100, I kind of exaggerated there a bit. But I think having a ton of members in one music group means each individual has to work like crazy to bring in the dough and to keep your position. So, what is my definition of too much? Well, if there’s more than 5 members then I consider that a packed group. And we all know where to find some of these gigantuous groups, don’t we? Of course, they exist only in Asia. Let’s check out some of the more popular ones: Continue reading “What happens when you have ‘100’ members in a group?”

It’s full “Time,” so I hope RaNia isn’t just teasing

RaNia created a lot of hype leading up to their debut, due to the fact that Teddy Riley (skilled producer but kind of washed up) produced their first single “Dr. Feel Good.” Unfortunately, I hated that song and the video. It just came off so overly sexed; like an audition for the adult industry. To be honest, had it not been for the members display of individual talent I wouldn’t have paid the group any further attention. And their other song, “Masquerade,” was so much better. Trust!

So what brought me back to the group at this point in time? Well, Continue reading “It’s full “Time,” so I hope RaNia isn’t just teasing”

Jin Akanishi is ready to “Takeover” the U.S.

But is the U.S ready for Jin? The pop singer is no rookie when it comes to the music industry; Jin has accomplished quite a lot back in his homeland of Japan when he was 1/6 of the Jpop group KAT-TUN. But now everyone is wondering if he can conquer the states with his honey like vocals and sex appeal. Most recently, Akanishi uploaded a video on YouTube depicting the journey of recording his first English language album. The interesting webseries titled “The Takeover“, will give fans a first hand view of Jin working with several internationally known artists and producers, including StereotypesJason DeruloJustin Bieber, and Sean Kingston.  There’s no question that he has talent but I’m very skeptic when it comes to foreign singers, particularly Continue reading “Jin Akanishi is ready to “Takeover” the U.S.”

SNSD releases “The Boys” MV

Girls’ Generation has finally unveiled the long awaited music video for not only the Korean version of their latest song “The Boys,” but the English version as well. You can now purchase the English version on iTunes. The song is catchy and I like how chic and sophisticated their new concept is. However, the auto-tune, as usual, is just killing me. I guess they utilized it more this time to assist with their English pronunciations? And I can’t help but think of Gwen Stefani‘s “Hollaback Girl” whenever I hear “The Boys.” Anyways, the choreography is cool and the outfits are hot. I’m definitely loving Hyoyeon‘s studded high boots and Sunny‘s red jacket. Check out both videos below and tell us what you think: Continue reading “SNSD releases “The Boys” MV”

SNSD teases “The Boys”

image

Girls’ Generation has unveiled the final teaser for their upcoming album “The Boys” and I must say I’m loving the concept and the backing music. Unfortunately, they never seem to use these hip hop influenced sounds for their actual lead track so I strongly doubt this is the song they’re going to release, if it is, then kudos to SM for finally taking SNSD out of the bubblegum phase. Anyways, check out the teaser showing the girls’ stunning new look and tell us what you think. Is it another SNSD hit in the making or what? Continue reading “SNSD teases “The Boys””

[Review] Girls Generation

Girls Generation (SNSD) has done exceptionally well over the years in dominating kpop charts and establishing themselves as Korea’s top selling girl group. Their fan base spans beyond asia, crossing internationally waters. The group has tremendously impacted the industry with their catchy mega hit “Gee“, which had everyone singing and dancing to the song. Recently these ladies have been hard at work in trying to make a name for themselves in Japan, and it seems they have conquered the Jpop market as well. Their first crossover album features poppy numbers along with a few blasts from the past. Girls Generation remains faithful to their kpop roots while attempting another language, and I have to say they’re sounding not too bad out of their comfort zone. Artists Have To Sexify Their Music To Make It Sell?

A question that has always been on my mind for years: why do artists sexify themselves in order to sell music? Females show a lot of skin in barely there outfits, and perform provocative dance moves, while the males sing about sex, sex, and more sex.

Is that what a musician have to do in order to become a “superstar” so to speak? Is that why artists like Vivian Green, Heather Headley and Jazmine Sullivan are underrated, because they are more ‘conservative’?
