[Music Review + Giveaway] Hyuna’s “Melting”

Release date: October 22, 2012

Label: Universal Music (SK)

Purchase: Yesasia | Kpoptown

*Your purchase from these sites impact Kpop charts.

My opinion in regards to HyunA has always been mixed. The kpop idol can either be proclaimed as one of the fiercest and most versatile artist of our generation, or if you’re more on the modest side of the fence you’ll probably define her as a sex symbol trying too hard to be a tease. I for one have placed all personal feelings at the back of my mind to focus entirely on what she has to offer on her second EP. Because since her debut with 4Minute, Hyuna has always taken the sexy approach and shows no sign of slowing things down. If you disagree please refer to her latest mini album’s title, confidently named ‘Melting‘. Pay no mind to all the suggestiveness because it is simply there for the shock factor.  Continue reading “[Music Review + Giveaway] Hyuna’s “Melting””

Ailee’s gonna “Show You”

I fell in love with Korean American pop singer Ailee‘s debut song, Heaven, back in February, and have been anticipating the release of her album. Well, not only has she granted fans a mini album, the talented songstress has unveiled a music video for her rock intensified dance number, I’ll Show You, which features an appearance by the sexy and just as talented G.O (MBLAQ). … Continue reading Ailee’s gonna “Show You”

Psy: Kpop’s hope for global domination?

When one hears the term Kpop you either think ‘oh, Korean pop music’ or ‘the name of a candy brand’ (like I did the first time I heard it). These days the musical genre has soared beyond the Asian shores. Many across the world are getting more aware of Korean culture through the addictive sounds of their pop music. From massive groups like Girls Generation … Continue reading Psy: Kpop’s hope for global domination?

The Power of Netizens

I would say they’ve been granted too much.

So, I’m not quite sure how many of our readers pay attention to Kpop and its beloved artists. To be honest, I don’t really tune in around the clock when it comes to the genre but now and then I check in to see what’s new. Today, I decided to update myself on some new kpop music only to come across controversial news regarding the popular group, T-ARA. I’m obviously late if the troubling stories have been escalating since July. Anyways, I don’t want to get into that too much because I’m not really sure where to start or what’s really going on, and we’re not a gossip site. But it has been brought to my attention that a member of the group had an injury and thus had to be absent from performances or couldn’t perform to her fullest, no duh. She was in a wheelchair I hear. Turns out, that injured member has been released from not only the group but from her contract with the entertainment company she’s signed to. For some reason I feel like they dropped her ass because Continue reading “The Power of Netizens”

NU’EST Starts The ‘Action’

NU’EST is THE only male Kpop group I’m feeling right now and since the year started. No, it’s not because they’re After School‘s labelmates, well, partly, but it’s mostly due to the fact that these guys demonstrate more confidence, swag, talent, and fierceness than any of the male groups out now. I just caught their music video for the new single “Action” and I’m beyond … Continue reading NU’EST Starts The ‘Action’

Music Review: Super Junior’s “Sexy, Free & Single”

Release date: July 4, 2012

Label: SM Entertainment

Purchase: Yesasia | Kpoptown | iTunes

Rating: 4/5

To be honest, I didn’t enjoy this album from beginning to end, there were some bumps along the way. What I disliked was the musical production on a few of the songs. Those were sounding misplaced, washed up, and whacky. Honesty is my best policy and I’m not going to lie and say Sexy, Free & Single was mind blowing when it most certainly was not. It was interesting but not exceptional. Allow me to give you a run down as to how the record left me with mixed feelings:

Super Junior Returns “Sexy, Free & Single”

Kpop’s super group (well not exactly unless you classify a group with more than 6 members to be super like me) Super Junior, has returned with their 6th album  “Sexy, Free & Single.” I like the song and the video, but there wasn’t much of a concept to it, mostly just good dancing and camera tricks. As for the song itself, its like a rip … Continue reading Super Junior Returns “Sexy, Free & Single”

Music Review: After School’s “Flashback”

Release date: June 22, 2012

Label: Loen Entertainment/Pledis

Purchase: Kpopmart | Kpoptown | Yesasia

*Your purchase from any of the above counts toward the Hanteo Chart.

My thoughts: Is it me or has After School’s singing gotten even more sensual? I guess it’s a clear depiction of how much the ladies have evolved in music. Flashback is creative, fun, exciting, well organized, and demonstrates brilliant production efforts. There are no fillers or musically incorrect additions; each track has the potential to stand on its own and appeal to not only pop and dance fans, but to lovers of ballads and r&b.  Continue reading “Music Review: After School’s “Flashback””

Nana “Just Wants To Love You”

If you still haven’t listened to After School‘s latest EP, then you’re out of the loop completely. It’s hot. And as much as I love each of the five songs, there’s something about Nana’s solo that keeps me going back. “Eyeline” is a dance, electropop song with a single arabian string that intensifies the sensuality of the melody. This song is flawless; it matches perfectly well with Nana’s sultriness. Check it out: Continue reading “Nana “Just Wants To Love You””

The Wait Is Over

After all the teasing, AS has finally unveiled the music video for their long awaited new single “Flashback.” I don’t know about you but I love the track and choreography. As always, After School is fierce. Check it out and tell us what you think: Credit: LOENENT More than what you could ever imagine, Afterschool is back once again. The title song “Flashback” contains powerful … Continue reading The Wait Is Over

Did You Hear?

Kahi will be “graduating” from her badass Kpop group After School. According to Pledis Entertainment, her label and management, as well as a ton of news outlet in South Korea, Kahi will be leaving the group to work on her solo career as well as her acting. Now, I don’t want to offend anyone but isn’t the reason why After School was so hot to begin with due to the presence of Kahi. I mean, she puts the fierceness in the group. And no one can pull dance moves off like she does. It’s definitely going to be hard to continue following After School now that Kahi’s leaving, but I’m sure true PLAYGIRLZ won’t waver their support. As for Kahi, I’ve always been a fan since her days as a  dancer & choreographer, and will continue to ride with her to the end. After all, she is and will always be ‘The Queen of Dance’. I just love her versatility, don’t you?

Since the group’s formation the company did state that there would be a graduation system in place where members were free to leave as they choose to, but I’ve always considered this as a sugarcoated excuse for firing the members who don’t bank much for them. Well, just as they have the graduation system there’s also the admission part, Continue reading “Did You Hear?”
